Day 29 - Castro, Isla Chiloe, Chile

 Saturday we were in Castro,  on  Chiloe Island in Chile. The is the main island in the Chiloe Archipelago in southern Chile. Our excursion today was Churches of Chiloe and the City of Castor.

The Jesuit missionaries arrived here in 1608. They built 150 in all. 16 othe the remaining ones are UNESCO World Heritage sites of which we visited 2.


All 3 churches we see today were made of wood and built in the 1890's.



No sunrise seen this morning. It was overcast with some light rain

Along the way to our first stop, . We passed the main cathedral which we would come back to later.

These houses on stilts are famous. The tide level differences here are large.

Our tour guide has lived here over 40 years and has studies the history of the area

Our second church was The Church of Conchi.

Yhe old front of this building was kept for historical reason then the new building  build in behind in the same style is a store

It only teased me as it set behind the clouds



At actual sunset time it was gone
