Day 20 - Arica, Chile

Thursday our stop was Arica, Peru. We were here back in 2019. We did not book any excursions this time and  decided to just walk around. There is a prominent hill  called Morro de Arica.  It is 456 Ft (139 meters) tall.  I decide to climb to the top on a  trail up the side of it. This is as far south on the South American continent as we have ever  cruised. We won't get back to known ports until we hit Africa in mid April.

Lights of the city with Morro de Arica in the center.

St. Marks Cathedral was designed by Gustave Eiffel (before his success with the Eiffel Tower in Parris). It was prefabricated in Eiffel's Paris shops and shipped in pieces tob Arica.  The church is made of stamped and molded cast iron, coated with paint.  It was inaugurated in 1876

The first section of trail

It was the steepest section

The trail is .6 miles long

The second section was not quite as steep

A very large Chilean flag. There was no wind when I was up there but later in the day the flag was extended.

A small military museum - Combatants of the Morro de Arica Museum" at the top. I wasn't open yet when I was there.
