Monday, We were in Lisbon, Portugal. We had an afternoon excursion "Medieval Obidos" . We got off the ship once it had been cleared and walked around the Old Tow area for a couple of hours.
Lisbon sits on the Tagas river and has a population of a little over 500,000.
Obidos is an ancient town that was started by early Celts tribe. The Romans then occupied it and when the Roman empire fell it was under influence of the Visigoths. Sometime after 713 AD the Moors established a fortification on the mountain. The King of Portugal took it in 1148 and in 1210, King Alphonse gave the village to his queen.
