Day 111 - Haugesund, Norway

Monday, our port of call was  Haugesund, Norway. This is a new port for us.  It has a population of about 36, When Viking King Harald Fairhair united Norway in 872 AD, Avaldsnes became the country's royal seat remaining so for nearly 500 years. Avaldsnes is just south of Haugesund on and long island just off the coast of Norway.

Our excursion today was "Medieval Church and Viking Village".




Now sun to be seen at sunrise time.

Rock islands lined the channel into Haugesund. 





This is used in Offshore Floating Production Storage and Offloading. It is at a facility of Aibel who build and maintain platforms and other critical offshore infrastructure. It was next to where we doxked

Avaldsnes Church (formally St. Olav's Church) . The small back section was built in 1250 AD and other parts added later. There had been an earlier church here built before 1024.










They are uncovering the reaismn of old building in the area around the Church

Next we walked to a recreation of a Viking farm.

I then went looking for a local beer.


I found a place by the water.

Now walking back to the ship





Now sailing on to our next port.

I saw rays from the sun.






and a spot os sunlight on the water







But sunset occured without me seeing the sun itself
