Day 87 - Casablanca, Morocco

Monday, our stop was Casablanca, Morocco. 

Our excursion todays was "The Imperial City of Rabat".  Rabat is the capital of Morocco and was founded  in the 12th century as a  a fortified monastary. It was the administrative center under the French Protectorate. Morocco became independent in 1956 and Rabat was named the capital. Rabat is a Unesco World Heritage site. The city has  over 560  acres of green space.

Where we will dock.



The Hussan II Mosque. It is the second largest mosques in Africa and the 14th largest in the world. The  689 ft  (210 meter) minaret the tallest in the world.




It was a 1 1/2 huor drive north of Casablanca

The grounds of the imperial palace which is the home of the King Mohammed VI (since 1999).



The Ahl Fas Mosque

The mosque is known as a place where the king gives the khotbah (sermon) during the Friday Prayer or Eid Prayers.

Some of the many gurads  here. Color of uniform denotes that type of guard they are. The red is the ceremonial guard. The King was not in residence. There would be more guards if he was here. He was another palace  when not working.

Next we saw the Mausoleum of King Mohammad Vand his 2 sons

Refreshment break. We had mint teas and Moroccan pasteries
