Day 67 - Manaus, Brazil - Day 1

 Well, today we are half way through this wonderful cruise.stop today is 

Our port of call today was Manaus, Brazil which is the capital of the state of Amazonas. We will be here for  2 days. It has a population of about just over 2 million. It is situated at the confluence of the  Negro (Black)  and Amazon rivers. Our featured stop on our excursion s  "Manaus and Teatro Amazonas" was the Amazonas Theater,.  The building was started in 1884 and inaugurated Dec 31 1896. It has a seating capacity of 701 and is home to the Amazonas Philharmonic. It was built during the rubber boom.

Thet opened the bow for the sail-in and servered coffee and "Manaus Rolls"  (which are the same as Rio rRolls. Panama Rolls etc.)


A bridge over the Rio Negro limits the size of ships that can sail any further up this river
