Day 50 - Punta del Este, Uraguay

Day 50 of our cruise brought us to the city of Punta del Este, Uruguay. This point of land  and peninsula is the souhern most in the country and is a seaside  resort town. It was founded in 1869. There is a lot of money here. It has been called the "The Monaco of the South". It is a tender port.
Our shore excursion today was "Punta del Este and the Ralli Museum". This museum has some Salvadore Dali pieces.

Our excursion started with a drive around the city

There are places were you cat see the ocean in all directions but it is nor an island



The anchor from the German cruiser Graf Spree which sunk hnear here on Dec 17 1939. It was  was in  the first sea battle of WW2

Most of them were  displayed around the edge of a courtyard and sun reflected off the glass in front of them

We could see our ship across the bay


We got to walk past this building in the town near Punta del Este.  It was the summer residence and workshop of Uruguayan artist Carlos Paez Vilaro. It wa built in 1960 and has  12 roomson 13 floors.

A casino. Many Brazilians come here because there are no casinos in Brazil as they are illegal there..
