We woke this morning to a 4th weather variant in 4 days- Snow. The outside decks had a dusting of snow and it snowed a little more though the morning. It was fun watching the crew members who are mostly for the Philippines and Indonesia. Many of them had not seen snow. A few of them were out on the back Sea View deck and were making snowmen and having snowball fights, We showed one of them how to make a snow angel.
We were scheduled to sail east into the Weddell Sea which is on the other side of the Antarctic Peninsula but conditions were foggy there also so the Captain changed it to go north to Elephant Island.
This island is famous for being the location where explorer Ernest Shackleton was marooned for 4 1/2 months after sailing a lifeboat from his ship Endurance which had got caught in the iceE u=in nthe Weddell Sea in 1915.
