Early Monday July 25, we sailed into Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe and about 10th in the world.. We were here for 2days, On the first day we went to see some old windmills and did some walking around. The second day we walked over the Erasmus bridge into the city center. We went to a framers' market and did some souvenir shopping.

On our excursion we went to see "Windmills of Kinderdjik". This small town is up the Nieuwe Maas river from Rotterdam. The windmills were build in the mid 1700's. There are 2 type - one for grinding grain and another for pumping/lifting water from the low areas of the Netherlands. It is a
World Heritage Site

Near the cruise port is the original Holland America Line headquarters building which started in 1873. They mover to the United States in 1978. The building is now the New York Hotel.
An older retire Holland America Line cruise ship - Rotterdam 5 is docked near the cruise terminal.
