Day 49 - Freemantle / Perth. Australia (Day 1)

Tuesday and Wednesday we were in Fremantle which is the port city for Perth, Australia.  Fremantle was established in 1829 at the mouth of the Swan river  by Captain Sir Charles Fremantle in order to prevent French or U.S. incursions. Fremantle Prison was constructed  between 1852 and 1859 by convicts labor.  Our excursion the first day was  "Perth and Fremantle Highlights".

A ferry to Rottnest island which is home to  the Quokke, a small wallaby-like marsupial. The animal is featured on the side of the ferries. There are between 10,00 and 12,000 of them in the island. We did not go to see them this trip but hope to in the future.

I had a couple of pints in local beer at the Gage Roads Brewery which was just down the wharfs from our ship.
