Day 67 - Mumbai (Bombay), India - Day 1

Sunday and Monday, we were in Mumbai, India (previously called Bombay up to 1996). Mumbai is the  second most populated city in the world with almost 21 million people.  The first day, our excursion was "Marvels of Mumbai". We visited the main train station  Victoria Terminus, built during Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee year. The fist train left  the station in 1853. Now, half a million commuters use the station daily. We next went to Mahatma Gandhi's Bombay  base from 1917 to 1934. It is a museum now. We saw the room he slept in. Next we traveled to Dhobi Ghat, the  outdoor city laundry. I had heard about this but it was far bigger and more complex than I had imagined. The guide told  us that it was much larger in the past.  Laundry from all over the city is sent here to be washed and dried then it is sent back. Then on to the Prince of Wales Museum (The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya ) to see some of the exhibits.  We ended up at  the "Gateway to India". It is an archway built on the waterfront in 1911 to commemorate the visit of of King George V.
