Day 26 - Isafjardurdjur, Iceland

Wednesday, our last stop in Iceland was at the town of Isafjardur in the Westfjords region. It is at the end of a 13 km fjord. My excursion today was "Sudureyri: A Taste of the Westfjords". Kathy decided to skip this one because of the cold weather (42 F) and chance of rain in conjunction with the smell of  fish processing.  It went to a small fishing  village on the next fjord. Sudureyri has a population of about 276.

what it looked like when I looked out after midnight.

But the exciting thing was that I was above the Arctic circle for my first time. Pictures are from Google Earth on my phone and the GPS data from the picture  showing my location - 66 N, 35', 28". Not sure how much further northwest  the captain sailed before  turning southwest for our next port.

On excursion to the village of Sudureyri we passed  many waterfalls

There was a 5 km tunnel through the mountain . It has a branch in the middle so you can go 2 different ways. First part of tunnel is 2 way then the branch legs are one  line with many turnouts for when meeting oncoming traffic. Total length of the tunnels is 8 km.
