Day 57 - at Sea (Crossing the Equator) - King Neptune ceremony

We have reached the half way point of our around the world  journey.

Sailors have a tradition were they go through a King Neptune ceremony on their first time crossing the equator. On cruises were the itinerary crosses the equator more than once (like ours) they pick the one that suits the schedule the best. Today they held the ceremony on our cruise as we crossed the equator on our way to Singapore

King Neptune arrives for the ceremony

the judge presides over the ceremony

the jury is  the captain and some senior officers

the bring in the new sailors (crew member). they are known a Pollywogs.

the first group of Polywogs kneel before the jury

the jury votes - thumbs up or thumbs down
each Pollywog gets coated in colored  meringue


The jury votes.  Thrubs bow (good) - Polywogs get to jump in the pool. Thumbs up - they have to bake in the hot sun
