Day 53 - Komodo Island, Indonesia

Sunday, our stop was Komodo Island in Indonesia. It is  the home of the  Komodo Dragons. The nwhole island is a National Park.We anchored in Slawi Bay and tendered to the dock. All visitors must be on formal tours and each group is escorted by one or more park rangers and a guide. Thjee Dragons grow  to a length of 7 to 10 feet and up to 150 lbs .

The first dragons we saw. There were 4 of them at this waterhole


we could get fairly close to them

Saliva dripping from his mouth. The saliva is poisonous and they also secrete an anti-coagulant which gets into their pray when they bite them. The pray will eventually bleed to death.

Park ranger was watching him closely

We were following him down the path. They told the people who were walking towards us to move oaff the path

We followed him through the tress as he headed towards the beach


He walked down the beach. People  were taking pictures
