Day 25 - Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia

Saturday morning we sailed into the port of Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia. It was windy and raining on and off most of the day. Our excursion was to travel along the west coast of Tahiti. We visited several gardens and parks, a grotto and a Marae which is a sacred place that served both religious and social purposes in pre-christian Polynesian societies. The sun was out much of the time we visited these sites then it started raining again once we got back into Papeete. When it stopped raining some, I walked along some of the streets of downtown Papeete and enjoyed a glass of the local beer. The ship overnight-ed  in Papeete and was scheduled to level for the next port early Sunday morning.

after some delay as the captain waited for the winds to subside, we passed through a narrow gap in the reefs
