Day 19 - Easter Island, Chile


Today we are at Easter Island ( Rapa Nui in the local language or  Isla de Pascua in Spanish). This is one of the most remote populated islands on earth. The population is about 9000. Here are a few of the 450 pictures I took today. We visited 3 sites that had  Moai platforms ( anu ) and the quarry where all the statues were carved out of the volcanic rock

this one Moai has the eyes that were added at the end of the construction process. The piece on top of the head (pukao)
was added after the statue was erected and represents hair
wild horses roam the island
